Mitsubishi Repair: surging idle and stalling, mass air sensor, throttle position sensor

Question
whenever i start my 1990 eclipse it sits at a normal idle speed for about two minutes then starts to surge. after a while the RPM will drop down to about 500 and it seems to be struggling to keep running. after about five minutes around 500 RPM it stalls and i have a tough time restarting it.

Answer
Wiliam,
You may have a problem with your throttle position sensor (TPS), your idle air controller (IAC), or your mass air sensor (MAS).  These components are typically bypassed when the engine is cold, but once it reaches the normal operating temperature, the car's computer relies on readings from these sensors to help it maintain a proper idle.  If one of those components is faulty, it can cause the problems you're experiencing.  You should have your mechanic inspect those items and replace them if necessary.
Good luck!
