Mitsubishi Repair: 03 Eclipse GTS manual, transmission shop, starter motor

Question
75,000 miles - Had the starter replaced twice and the alternator once - When I start the car 95 percent of the time it makes a less than lovely high pitched metal grinding noise that last for no more than a few seconds. Also, when in neutral it makes a rattling noise as well, but when I push in the clutch it will go away. Any ideas?

Answer
Emily,
Replacing the alternator once so far is not uncommon.  But having to replace the starter motor twice already leads to me to believe there may be a problem with the flywheel or transmission itself.  I would recommend having your transmission looked at by a transmission shop to see if they can find the problem.  Your clutch my be out of alignment or you may have a bad bearing in your transmission.
Good luck!
