Mitsubishi Repair: 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse rev limiter coming-on to soon, mitsubishi eclipse, fuel supply

Question
I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse and have recently discovered that the engine starts to shut-down around 4,500 RPM in every gear. I am assuming it has something to do with the rev limiter since the way it shuts down "feels" like the limiter and it's the same RPM regardless of engine load or gear. I know the advertised horsepower peak is at 5,500 RPM and Mitsubishi says the rev limiter is set to 6,100 RPM. Any ideas on why this is happening?

Answer
Cory,
The rev limiter should not kick in until your RPMs hit the redline.  It's possible your car's computer is thinking the engine is revving too high.  A damaged ECU or TCU could cause this.  Though sometimes what may feel like the rev limiter could be a lack of fuel.  If your ECU is cutting the fuel supply, this could be due to poor ignition timing.  I would recommend having a mechanic inspect your fuel system and ignition system to see what is going on.
Good luck!
