Mitsubishi Repair: Keyless Entry on a Mirage, keyless entry system, family friend

Hi, I am buying a 2003 Mirage off a family friend.  Mechanically it is excellent, but the keyless entry system doesn't lock or unlock the doors - it does activate the alarm however.  Is this likely to be expensive to fix? Is there any way I can do it myself

This is likely the receiving unit that activates the relays that trigger the locks.  If that unit or various relays are not functioning, then it will not work.  This is probably not something you'd want to attempt fixing yourself.  The best would be to have a mechanic inspect the system and see if it can be fixed or needs to be replaced.
