Mitsubishi Repair: 95 Magna overheating & few other noises, blown head gasket, combustion chamber

Question
1995 Mitubishi Magna, 2.6l, manual.
My car in overheating every couple of wks. When i check the reservoir its empty, I refill it and alls back to normal for another wk or 2. I can't see any leaks from the raditor or pipes. I checked the raditor and there was no air bubbles when engine was running. I suspect the thermostat is faculty, could it be anything else.

Also when I steer to the right in the car I hear a bad creaking/screehing noise.? What could that be.

Answer
Cormac,
For your noisy steering issue, that most likely is a bad drive belt.  Have our power steering belt inspected and replaced if necessary.

For your overheating problem, it sounds like you may have a blown head gasket.  With a blown gasket, the coolant can leak into your combustion chamber and burn off.  This would cause your coolant to disappear without the evidence of any leaks.  You can check your exhaust for whitish smoke, and it may smell sweet.  Those are signs of burning coolant.  You would need your head gasket replaced if your mechanic determines that this is indeed the problem.
Good luck!
