Mitsubishi Repair: engine stalls, corrision, foot on the gas

Question
I replaced the negetive battery clamp because of corrision and hooked it back up. I also cleaned the terminals. And now the engine will start fine but will not stay at idle speed, it stalls. When the engine is cold it will run for a short time at idle but then will stall. I can drive the vechicle but I must keep my foot on the gas to keep the rpms up so that it will not stall.... Is this somethiing I can fix myself?? I am very mech. inclinded.... Could it be bad connection, weak battery, throttle valve??? Please help me...

Answer
Brian: Get the fuel pump checked out to see if it might be going bad. It is an easy test to get the pressure checked on the pump. When is the last time you did a good tune up on this car? I would be doing that too. The tune up you could if you got a repair manual for the car, most parts stores sell them for around $20.00 and it would explain what the pressure is for the fuel pump and the kind of tool you would need to check that. And where on the engine is the port to do the checking so then you could do that yourself too. I don't think the battery cable or the battery would be causing the car to run, well stall. You could have the computer coded to see what it might kick out as the problem too, as the computer controls everything in that car. The battery starts the car, runs the power for it but not how the engine runs, the computer sets the lean or rich as for stark, fuel and air mix to make the engine run as well as idle. So there is some ideas to check. God bless: Linda
