Mitsubishi Repair: Dying Battery, mitsubishi eclipse, black boxes

Question
I recently bought a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS. The battery light in the dashboard is on. I have replaced the alternator and checked the battery it is still good. I have charged the battery completely and still dies within 24 hours. What could be the problem?

Answer
Brian: I would say that there is either a relay out or a short in the system. You got an AutoZone close by? They would code your car for free and the computer should let you know why the battery light is on. I would say though there is a problem in the battery side of things, which could mean a short, or relay or a larger fuse. You could also check those large black boxes in with the engine, when you open the hood of the car looking at the engine. There should be one box over on the driver's side of the car and one or two over by the battery. In those are larger fuses and relays. Something is staying open and so pulling power off the battery so running it down. If you find a bad relay or fuse; please remove the neg cable off the battery, replace the relay or fuse and then put the cable back on. Other wise you will cook the new part and have to do it again.
