Mitsubishi Repair: 2001 Mitsubishi Galant security system, mitsubishi galant, galant

Question
I awoke the other morning hearing the horn sounding on my daughters Galant. It was cold that morning into the teens. The only thing I thought of was to unplug the horns. She took it to Advance Auto, The man plugged the horns back in only to sound off again. He also said the horn relay was hot so he pulled it out. It has to be the security system or the horn contacts. How can I check the horn contacts without setting off the air bags?

Answer
Charles: You need to take that car to a shop, as there is a short in it. If the relay for the horn was hot, there is switch that is staying closed and so setting off the horn. It would be better if you took it to a shop or dealership just because of those air bags sensors. As they will have to find that short or the switch then fix it. They would know what they are doing. It could be the horn or it could be something has shortened into the horn wires. Again it is best for a shop to check this over for you. God bless; Linda

Hey Charles: I have seen some newer cars with air bags come in and the people set the darn things off by doing work on the car, they were not sure how to do. I did not know if you know how to work on cars or ever worked on one with an air bag. You could go to a parts store and pick yourself up a repair manual they cost around $20.00 and well worth the money but try to get a Haynes a better manual,in it will explain how to do what you want to do. And GOOD LUCK! Linda
