Mitsubishi Repair: Mini Pajero 1997- wont start, mini pajero, comptuer

Question
Hi Linda,
I live in Zimbabwe and have a Mini Pajero. This has been a good little car for the longest time, but after it sat for a couple of weeks, it refuses to start. Our mechanic is stuck. He says the engine has no compression and isn't sure what to do. It's impossible to get parts in Zim and we don't want to undertake a major expensive repair unnecessarily. He's asked us to try and find a diagram of the engine (4A30) but I've had no luck on the internet and I can't find the workshop manual for this car either. If you have any ideas or suggestions I'd be grateful.
Cheers,
Kathy

Answer
Kathy: It takes four things for an engine to run; fuel, air and stark but it takes the comptuer to put it all together as for it to run right. I would be checking the computer, could you get the computer coded to see what it might tell you is the problem? With no compression almost sounds like the timing belt broke, what did you do with the car before you let it sit for two weeks? If the computer does not tell you anything, I would be looking at the timing belt. Never been to Zimbabwe so don't know what you have there, but if you have libraries you might check in one of those some libraries will carry repair manuals for cars. If the car has over 60000 miles on it and you don't know if the timing belt has ever been replaced. I would be checking with that. Sometimes those belts will just let go. God bless: Linda
