hi there, i have a 1991 Mitsubishi Magna sedan, automatic, right hand drive,  4cylinder, when driving it takes off in 2nd gear and goes into 3rd when needed but wont take off in 1st and doesn't go into 4th gear, hen i move the gear selector to L,1, or 2  while driving, it doesn't change anything? please help give me a rough idea what it could possibly be, thank you for your time,  Dave

Answer
David: The computer has put the car's transmission into a "safety mode", you need to try getting the transmission fluid and filter changed. And it would be good to add a bottle of transmission conditioner too. Have the shop do that for you, then take the neg cable off the battery, wait 5 minutes and put it back on to reset the computer. The computer must have picked up something in the transmission as a problem and put the transmission into this "safety mode", just never bothered to tell you there was a problem. Still try changing the transmission fluid and filter; add that conditioner. Sometimes this works and fixes the problem but sometimes you have to do that for 6 months or more then again. Just to clean out whatever was bugging the computer. I wish people would understand these cars are controled by that darn computer, it controls everything in that car. God bless: Lin
