Mitsubishi Repair: 1995 eclipse, code scanner, transmission fluid

Question
I read the question from Matt about his eclipse having problems sometimes. I am having the same kind of problems. It will run great one day and crappy the next. I have put a code scanner to it. The code P0505 comes up. It is the idle air control system. But I have replace the sensors. When I am driving it go into a lower gear. The check engine light comes on. I am going crazy with this car. When I bought the car there had been a stereo system in it. A couple of days ago my car caught on fire,it was due to some wires.I am wondering if the stereo system could cause problems? Please help I am going crazy

Answer
Sarah: Did you reset the computer when you replaced the sensors? One way to do that is remove the neg cable from the battery, wait 5 minutes and put the cable back on. You know your car could have one of those bad computers in it, as the company farmed out the building of their computers to another company that did not build very good ones, a piece will start to die inside the computer as it does it leaks into other places on the computer and then kills off the computer. The computer does not know this is going on, but kind of goes crazy with time. You might think about replacing the computer. Because the computer controls how your car shifts and it sounds like the computer is trying to put your car into that "safety mode" where it will put it into a low gear as to save the transmission. You need to check your transmission fluid and see if that is low, is it still a nice pink color and no brown mixed in with it. You should have the transmission fluid, filter changed and put in a bit of transmission conditioner, you can get that at any parts store. No I don't think how the wiring on the stereo would cause the problems with how your car is driving. I think it is the computer, could be the fire messed with the computer too and so now your car's computer is crazy. You need to try replacing the computer to see if that will fix your problems but also get that transmission fluid and filter replaced too. Don't put this off with the transmission or else the computer will lock your transmission into low. Oh you should however get that stereo wiring checked again, you do not want another fire.
