Mitsubishi Repair: Having car trouble, coolant level, head gasket

Question
I have a 98' diamante and my engine light is on. My car is smoking white smoke and it just started to shake. I have no idea what is wrong with it. Some say that it is the head gasket but i need to make sore what is really going on. Please help.

Answer
Trenea,
White smoke usually indicates coolant leaking into the combustion chamber and you're seeing the evaporated liquid in the exhaust.  Some evidence of this is a low coolant level.  If you notice your coolant level is below normal, it's leaking somewhere.  Have your mechanic give your engine a compression test.  This will test the compression in each cylinder.  If your head gasket is bad, your compression will be low and that will indicate you'll need your head gasket replaced.
Good luck!
