Mitsubishi Repair: 1997 Eclipse Auto/2.0, starter solenoid, eclipse auto

Question
Have replaced starter/solenoid and battery. Solenoid just  clicks once when you turn the key. Repair manual says check starter relay but does not give location. Dealer no help, said it could be several places. Can't find it. Could I have a bad ground or short somewhere? Lights, etc. work fine. I'm stumped. Car won't turn over at all.

Answer
Steve: Got a good dealership there, first place the starter that you put into the car could be bad, sometimes you get a bad one. Not often but sometimes, I would take the starter off and get it tested to make sure it is good. Are you sure you tooked the starter up right? Got the wires all in the right places? Are you sure the battery is good?  Cables in good shape, tight on the battery and clean too. In that all the cells are up on the battery, putting out the right amount of volts to turn the engine over. I mean it could run the lights just fine with a cell bad, but to turn the engine over takes a lot of power. The relay could either be in the small black boxes through out the engine department, I believe for your year of car, there should be one up by the firewall driver's side of the car, when standing with the hood open and looking at the engine. But also two over by the battery. Some of these cars have the relay down close to the fuse box inside the car on the driver's side of the car too.You got a repair manual for your car? Most parts stores sell them and they cost around $20.00 well worth the money if you are going to work on your own car. With your dealership I would be buying on of those repair manuals. So Steve check the starter to make sure you did not get a bad starter, check the battery to make sure its good all the cells, then buy that repair manual. God bless: Linda
