Mitsubishi Repair: Engine compatibility, pontiac fiero, porsche 911

Question
My sister ended up purchasing a 2001 Eclipse with the intent of driving it to later find out the title was being held and unattainable without resorting to extremely expensive litigation exceeding the value of the new car, when she went to get new tabs for her new car.

What options are available for a frame up mod to this car? I know that some models of car can be used as a base to create a different model through body modification kits. This would allow her to get a builders title for the car free and clear.

An example of what I am asking would be like how a late 80's Pontiac Fiero (an 87' I think) can be used as a base to build a Porsche 911 body kit to.

As a last resort, what other bodies would the 3.0 engine and drive train match up to besides another eclipse which to date has been unobtainable. I have heard that a talon is a candidate, but have been told both yes and no on this by different junkyards and mechanics and have yet to find one in usable condition to make an attempt.

The make or model of the body swap would not be important provided that it would require little modification. I have been unable to get a straight answer to this problem. Perhaps you can help?

The intent is to make the best of a bad situation, and use it as a family project for her and her daughters. Any help you could provide in figuring out what would be a likely candidate for a transplant or body style to use as a build would be appreciated.

Answer
Brandon,
Unfortunately, I don't have much information for you.  Eclipese made between 2000-2004 are the 3rd generation.  Talons and Eclipses were exactly the same, but the Talon line was discontinued back in 1998, but the 2nd generation.  You may have better luck asking this question on one of the Eclipse forums.  This one is good for 3G eclipses:

Good luck!
