Mitsubishi Repair: Need a starter?, 1997 mitsubishi diamante, mitsubishi diamante

Question
I have a 1997 Mitsubishi Diamante and I am needing a starter but can't afford a new one from the auto part store and our salvage yards dont have my make of car so I was wondering if there is any other make of cars starter would interchange with my starter. We thought at first it might be the battery but the battery is fine. The car only started if someone was beating the starter while someone else was turning the key, and now nothing. When you turn the key there is no noise of any kind.

Answer
Delleta: I would have the battery tested first. To make sure it is good and up to the level of power it should have. Then check the cables where they hook to the battery are they clean and tight on the battery? As for the starter no, you have to get the right starter for you car. Or else you will burn out the whole starting system. Your parts store should have a rebuild one that is not as costly as a new one for your car. Get one of those. But beating on the starter was not a good idea, it could have been that the wires that hook the starter to the battery were loose and if you had checked, then tighten them it would have fixed the problem. But now it is to late as I would say you have broke something inside the starter. Still has the starter ever been changed in your 1997 model? Well try for that rebuild starter it should be cheaper, you might try other parts stores sometimes somes are a bit cheaper than others. Might check those wires too... God bless: Linda
