Mitsubishi Repair: car shuting off, clogged catalytic converter, mitsubishi gallant

I have a 2001 Mitsubishi gallant es. Manual transmission. I have never had any problems until today. As i was driving on the freeway my car shut off on me and i had to pull over to the side. when i tried to start my car it started right up. About an hour later i was driving on the streets to avoid the freeway incident, when again my car shut off. When i tried to start my car it started. It runs fine when it is on and has happen to me three times. Now my check light is on, where as it was not before. Any advise is appreciated

Have your check engine light checked.  Major auto parts stores like AutoZone can do this for free.  Else, most any mechanic can read the codes from your check engine light for a fee.  The problem may be a weak fuel pump or clogged fuel filter.  A clogged catalytic converter can also cause this problem.  Other areas your mechanic should check is the car's computer and the cam angle sensor.
