Mitsubishi Repair: 1993 Eagle Talon, 1.8 lt, drive belts, timing belt

Question
Ever since I had the timing belt replaced on my Eagle, it exhibits a noticable high frequency flapping sound at around 3,000 RPM.  Needless to say, I avoid 3,000 RPM as much as possible.  Is it possible to adjust the tension on the belt without too much surgery?

Second question: Does the engine have to come out to replace the belt?

Thank you for your help.

Answer
Jesse,
You do not need to remove your engine in order to replace your belt.  A high frequency flapping noise may not be the timing belt. If the tension was loose to begin with, your timing would most likely be thrown off quickly and your engine would run very poorly.  But in order to replace your timing belt, your mechanic would have had to remove all your drive belts.  So it's possible one or more of your drive belts (power steering, alternator/water pump, or A/C (if so equipped)) may be loose.  I would recommend taking the car back to your mechanic and have them make any adjustments if necessary and diagnose what really is wrong.
Good luck!
