Mitsubishi Repair: Car stalls, head gasket, head bolts

Question
I have a 2002 Mistubishi galant.  had a head gasket replaced three months ago.  About six weeks ago, the car started to idle erratically.  Then white smoke came out the exhaust and the check engine light came on.  Took it back to the mechanic, the changed the plugs and cleared the code.  Code came backon and  Car began to stall every time I brake, it only starts well if I give it alot of gas.  Runs fine on the highway but stalls in reverse and at lights.  Took back to a different mechanic who says the trouble code reads #4 , engine misfiring and can't get the the car to fire up.  I drove the car to the mechanic myself. Help!

Answer
Tammy,
White smoke coming out of the exhaust is an indication that coolant is getting into the combustion chamber.  This is common when head gasket is not seated properly.  The head bolts may just need to be tightened.  But at the very least, your mechanic should to a compression test on your engine.  This may help determine if your new head gasket seated properly.

Since your timing belt was removed when they changed your head gasket, it that wasn't installed properly, it can cause poor performance.  Have your mechanic also check to make sure the timing is set correctly.
Good luck!
