Mitsubishi Repair: 1993 Plymouth Laser/Mitsubishi Eclipse, fuel pump relay, mitsubishi eclipse

Question
I have a 1993 Plymouth laser that I bought not knowing what was wrong with it.  So far I replaced a bad fuel pump and still didn't have fuel at the plugs, then replaced the fuel pump relay and ECM (those with used)and got fuel and fire at the plugs.  I cannot get this car to start.  I have a rebuilt starter in it but it turns over slow, I feel too slow to start it.  I do not have a high amperage cca battery to use on it and didn't know if I should invest in that or what I should be looking at and if the terminals should be heavy duty as the ones there are those little light weight clamp on ones.  I do not know if anyone messed with the distributor and will check to make sure it is pointing to number one on the distributor at tdc for #1 cylinder but am at a loss what to look for otherwise. I have been able to crank it in the past enough to get oil pressure readings at the gauge, so I'm told the balance shaft belt has to be in place.  Got any suggestions?

Answer
Gary,
I would recommend you get new battery for the car.  An engine that cranks slowly typically suffers from a weak battery.  But you can always take your existing battery to an auto store and have them load test it.  Stores like AutoZone, Advanced Auto, PepBoys and other can usually do this test for free.  If they determine the battery is weak, get a new one.  You can do a compression test to see if you have proper compression on each cylinder.  If the pressure on any cylinder is not within spec, that could indicate problem with the cylinder head and it may need to be rebuilt.

If you do get the car started but quickly dies, you could have a faulty alternator.  It may be worth to have that tested and replaced if necessary.
Good luck!
