Mitsubishi Repair: Mitsubishi eclipse 98 model automatic convertible hood not working, heavy equipement, mitsubishi eclipse

Question
Hello Anthony,

My eclipse spyder( convertible) is 98' model and its hood is not working automatically since the day I accidentaly kept an heavy equipement on it.

I showed to a mechanic and he suggested that motor that controls the top is damaged and he asked for 1000 bux to repair same. Please suggest an alternate solution if possible and also if this amount was reasonable.
Hood was working till the day I did not ahve that equipement placed on it.

Thanks.

Answer
Skanna,
That does sound like an expensive repair.  If they had to replace the motor assembly that lifts and lowers the top, that costs around $300-$400 alone.  It may just be the top if off the track or there is a gear that just needs to be reseated.

Labor costs vary from mechanic to mechanic, so it's definitely worth getting a couple estimates from a couple different garages. You may also want to consider getting an estimate from the dealership on the repair if you haven't already.
Good luck!
