Mitsubishi Repair: 99 eclispe transmission problems, gear shaft, input gear

Question
we have a 99 eclipse 2.0 non-turbo 5 speed, um the problem is well we only have 1 2 4 R sort of it grinds really bad, is there any other cheaper transmissions out of something different that will bolt up, it is nearly impossible to find a transmission for the car where i am from, this car means a whole lot to some i care for deeply, if it wasn't for my boyfriend i would not be where i am today and the eclipse was his late brothers so i am trying to get it fix for him any help you can give me would be great.

Answer
Brandy: You need to get the car into a transmission shop, it be the clutch is bad, or the transmissions in these cars have fluid in them. You need to check to see if there is enough fluid in the reservoir that would be up in the same area of the engine as the brake reservoir. It could be adding some fluid to the clutch reservoir might fix your problem if you have not damaged the gears by running it to low on fluid. But it could be that you have a seal out and so the fluid is leaking out of the car. Or you could have a bad hose, as they do break down with years and need to be replaced too. Then out of my repair manual it says the next things to check would be damaged or worn bearings, or worn of damaged input gear shaft and/or output gear shaft. You could get the transmission replaced and still keep the car running. You could as it is not that old. But still check that fluid to see if it is low. If so go to a parts store and get the right fluid for your car. Put some in and see if the car might be leaking it someplace. You could see also at the parts store if they might have a conditioner that you could add along with the fluid to see if that might help the problem. But if the car looses more fluid then you need to get it in someplace to see if they can find the leak. As I said a bad seal or hose. I understand about the car, keep me posted. God bless: Linda
