Mitsubishi Repair: How to remove crankshaft pulley from 93 eagle summit dl, crankshaft pulley, wooden mallet

Question
I am trying to replace the timing belt on our 93 eagle summit. We are stuck at the crankshaft pulley. Removed the 4 screws around the large nut but the large nut will not budge. I read somewhere that you only have to take off the 4 screws but it still is not coming off.

Answer
Jackie,
The crankshaft pulley can sometimes get stuck against the crank sprocket.  That large bolt is the crankshaft bolt, and it's holding on the sprocket.  The pulley may be stubborn, but a few taps with a wooden mallet or hard rubber mallet should break it free.  You do not need to remove the large crank bolt to get the pulley off.
Good luck!
