Mitsubishi Repair: transmission neutralising, transmission shop, question thanks

Question
QUESTION: I have a automatic 1992 Lancer GLXI. I have a problem which seems to be getting worse, up to 2 or 3 times during one trip. When slowing down, rolling or accelerating (say after stopping at a give way) my car decides its not in gear, it rolls without engine power, if i brake it bunny hops which takes a couple of seconds.
Usually, i shift it into 1st which first began to work but now its not so helpful, its beginning to also take a couple of seconds, which is becoming increasingly dangerous when pulling out of intersections. I have only had my license for 4 months, so im not a experienced driver and this scares me alot!
I noticed another person had the same concern but anthony couldnt help them, maybe you could possibly point me in the right direction :D

ANSWER: Emily: You need to get the car into a transmission shop and have them code the computer to see what it might kicked out. It sounds like there is a problem and the computer is times putting your car into what is called a "safety mode" in which the computer finds a problem so to keep the car safe it puts it into this mode as to save the transmission. You might try having the fluid, filter and adding some transmission conditioner to the transmission to see if that helps your problem. Have you ever checked the transmission fluid? That is where with the engine all warmed up, you then check the transmission fluid, it should be pink in color and not smell burnt. If there is any brown in the pink fluid, then it should be changed. But then your car is a 1992 model and so changing the fluid would be a good thing to do for such a year. Changing the fluid, filter and adding that conditioner would help the shifting problem I believe but still you should have the computer tested to see what it might tell you is going on with the transmission. QUESTION: thanks so much for replying so prompltly!!
yes dad has checked the fluid, and has taught me to do the same reguraly and its fine, but we havent tried the conditioner so i'll try that, then take it to the tranmission shop as well...fingers crossed!
Thanks again!! Your a life saver =] =]

Answer
Emily: Has your dad changed the fluid and the filter? Because I am hoping taking all the fluid out of the transmission, putting in new fluid and  putting in a new filter and then adding that conditioner would fix your problem. There are places now that will flush out the transmission before putting in the new fluid and filter; that really does help so many problems too. I do hope this will fix your problem. God bless: Linda
