Mitsubishi Repair: 98 eclipse, crankshaft position sensor, gas regulator

Question
My eclipse is consuming a lot of gas. When the car is at 1000@rpm it starts going down and almost the engine dies. The check engine light is on. The code was P1390. A mechanic told me that was the crankshaft position sensor and other mechanic told me that it was a gas regulator. I appreciate if you help me. Thanks

Answer
Jose: How many miles is on this car, and have you ever had the timing belt replaced? Because that code to me mean that your timing belt skipped on tooth. Another words your car's engine is now out of time and so the using of a lot of gas, the rpm problems and the engine almost dies, along with the check engine light is on. If you got an AutoZone close by, you could have them code the car again they will do it for free. Then when the code comes up asked them what code that is. I know this is hard for you, you had one person tell you it was the crankshaft position sensor and another one said gas regulator. But please have that timing belt checked, because if that belt breaks when you are driving the car down the road, it will take the engine. If you at around 60,000 miles never had a new one put in, now is the time to do it. You can have the fuel pump, as well as gas regulator tested to see if it is putting out enough pump. But still I think it is a problem with the timing belt and like now is the time to get that checked out. God bless: Linda
