Mitsubishi Repair: 98 Eclipse, vacuum leak, head gasket

Question
Hello, my 98 eclipse 2.0L auto sounds like it wants to die at idle but never does and when i get on the gas it sputters up to about 30mph and when i stay at a constant speed it seems like it wants to cut out. Fuel problem? injectors maybe?

Answer
Jeremy: Here are some ideas to check, right from my repair manual... vacuum leak, leaking EGR valve, when is the last time you did a tune up on your car?, so new stark plugs and the like, air filter needs to be replaced, fuel pump getting weak( you can get that tested to make sure it is putting out the right pressure), leaking head gasket(is the car blowing white smoke out the exhaust?) again you can have that tested too in the form of a pressure test on the engine. How many miles is on the car? Have you ever had the timing belt replaced, I think it is a the 60,000 miles mark and so you might think about getting that replaced, because it the belt breaks while you are driving the car down the road, you will most likely take the valves. Still some ideas to check, hope this helps and God bless: Linda
