Mitsubishi Repair: speedometer & odometer quit, cruise control system, speedometer cable

Question
Hey, my 96 eclipse GS 5 speed, speedometer odometer and cruise quit working, which cable is likely to be broken? or is it possible the speed sensor on the trans needs to be replaced?

Answer
Brian: The speedometer is run by a cable and the cable would have to be replaced. But the cruise on your car is run by a vacuum hose. So you would have to check to see if the hose has a hole in it as you might need to replace that hose or you might have to replace the cruise cable there too, as it runs from the throttle linkage by a cable but then the servo motor might be shot too. So would have to get that tested to see if it is ok, my repair manual says due to the complexity of the cruise control system and the special tools needed it is better to let a shop find the problem with it and so fix it. Oh there is a fuse that you could check that controls the cruise, so you might check to see if that is blown. But then to replace the speedometer cable is not easy job either, I would let a shop do that too. I hope this helps and God bless: Linda
