Mitsubishi Repair: 93 Eagle Summit LX, eagle summit, shift lock

Question
Hello.  93 Eagle Summit LX wagon automatic trans 2.4 liter 140,000 miles. When in "Park",  a kinda loud clicking or ticking noise comes from the engine area (like a playing card/spoke thing).  Put in "Neutral" and it stops (except ever so slightly can you hear it).  Drives fine otherwise,  but with slight (same) noise.  It just started doing this in park, but has made a slight ticking noise when driving for a year or so, but I thought it was the odometer cable or nothing too important.  Help please and I do thank you.

Answer
Travis: You are partly right on a cable bit just not the odometer cable, my repair manual talks about a key interlock cable and also a shift lock cable. If you are going to do this work yourself, you will need to get a repair manual for your car and it will walk you through this. Most parts stores sell these manuals for around $20.00 and they are well worth the money. Other wise you will have to take the car to a shop to find the problem. The older these cars get and you think of how many times through the years you have shifted the car into a different gear, well things do wear out. You should also check the transmission fluid and filter too. It would not hurt to have that replaced too and add a bit of transmission reconitioner too. Again most parts stores sell this and it really helps those older transmissions. I hope this helps and God bless: Linda
