Mitsubishi Repair: 97 Eclipse Spyder GST, eclipse spyder, sincro

QUESTION: Hi, my 97 GST has 107K miles on it and has had recent, relatively minor repairs: water pump, thermo. I just noticed rough shifting when I accelerate. I worry it will stall on left hand turns, when I'm out in the middle of an intersection. I'm careful not to "gun it" and push the transmission when it doesn't shift, but this is a problem. Can you advise if the transmission is going out or what other issues can be presented? I'm contemplating buying a newer car, so that I have more reliable transportation, but would like a neutral opinion about what could be going wrong. Honestly, it feels perfect sometimes, idling quietly and smoothly, and then other times, it feels like the transmission is seriously slipping and going out. Could it be something like a timing belt, instead of the whole transmission shot?

QUESTION: Thanks for the information. The fluid is fine and I'm having the mounts looked at. What are the potential issues at play here? The mechanic has taken quite some time to diagnose. I'd like to see if you can maybe advise of potential issues, specifically transmission related, to the 97 Eclipse with over 100,000 miles. I know I can expect to replace an alternator/starter (which is not the problem here), the timing belt. What other types of repair can I expect with a car this old?

Hi, Well you nailed the trimming belt, please make sure you replace the balancebelt, and all tensioners.
Clutch, I'm thinking yours could also be a sincro or throw out bearing in the tranny. Could be pressure plate but that comes with the new clutch. It just might need a tranny flush, It is very difficult to say without hearing any noises or without feeling it myself. But these are the things to look at. thanks again,Kevin
