Mitsubishi Repair: check engine light ?, mitsubishi gallant, negative battery

Question
My husband and I were driving our Mitsubishi Gallant and the check engine light just popped on? There was no indication that anything was wrong with the vehicle..However my mother said her Eclipse did the same thing and she had to replace the sensor..Is this what could be the problem with the vehicle? It is a 1994 Galant ES, w/ 178K miles..We just purchased the car about 3 wks ago and the previous owners did have the vehicle serviced while they had it..Any suggestions as to why that would come on...The transmission was just replaced 1 year ago also.  Thank you..

Answer
Hi, I would bring the car to your local parts store and have them read the code first and then have them clear it. Once you find out the code you find the problem. They will check it for free for you.
If you just want to get the code off and see if it comes back on then just take the negative battery terminal off for like a minute and then reconnect it and start driving again and see if it comes back on. I hope this helps please let me know if you need more help, Thanks again Kevin
