Mitsubishi Repair: starting black smoke, air fuel mixture, fuel injection system

My Pajero give out black smoke when starting in cold weather - is this a problem - Not too cold about 5 degs centigrade Thanks

black smoke from the exhaust usually indicates that to much gas is being burned (i.e. the air/fuel mixture is too rich.
So then, of course,what we need to do determine why so much gas is being burned. Well, one thing that would cause this is a clogged air filter inspect it. OK Is it clogged? Is there allot of dirt on the filter? if yes replace it. If not then this brings us to Another possibility has to do with the cars fuel injection system. In particular, one of the system's sensors may have gone bad.
Other problem could be that your valve seals need to be replaced.
