Mitsubishi Repair: CV Joint 1999 Mitsubishi Montero Sport 4x4 XLS, mitsubishi montero sport, dirt and grime

Question
I just replaced the front driver side CV joint and inner and outer bearings. I have drove my Montero about 15 miles and it is making the same noise as before. Before I replaced the cv joint and bearings it would make a rattle noise anytime I hit a bump then it got worse and started making a grinding noise. Drove like a charm for about 15 miles and now is doing the same thing! Any ideas what this might be?
Thanks
Lora

Answer
If you’re able get the car up on a jack on one side and with the tires facing forward put you hands at 3 and 9 a clock. No grab firm and shake back in forth and see if there is any play in it and let me know. If there is play in it then more the likely you will need to get your rack and pinion replaced or rebuild. If there is no play then I would look at the ball joints.

I assume you had the CV joints done because of a load clicking noise correct? Well while car is in the air check the inner and outer boot to see if there are any tears. If so they will need to be replaced again because of dirt and grime.

If you can give me some info on what was happening before you replaced anything and walk me through it so I can get you in the right direction. Thanks, Kevin.
