Mitsubishi Repair: 1991 3000GT VR4, power steering fluid, dodge stealth

Question
Hi Anthohy, I brought by GT in for leaking power steering fluid, twice last week, we put 1 liter of fluid in and drove 2 miles, then the mechanics put 2 more liters in and they can't find the leak, I took it on friday because they said it held the fluid and they don't see any leaks,I it drove home 2 miles and the dash light came back on. There is no fluid leaking on the ground any where!!! Where could this fluid be going? My mechanic has been working on all my 3000GT&Dodge Stealth's since 1999, and he is truly stumped. Can you help me? Thanks Susan

Answer
Susan,
That seems to be a lot of fluid that is disappearing.  When running your car, but not driving, there is very little load on the steering system.   Once your car is in motion, and you turn the wheel, the load is much greater and the there is much more fluid pressure in the steering system.  Steering pressure increases even more after you reach 35 mph and your rear steering components are also in play.  Have your mechanic check the rear power steering components for leaks and problems.  That's where oil leak may be occuring.
Good luck!
