Mitsubishi Repair: 2002 GDI Lancer, gdi, accelerator

I purchased a second hand 2002 GDI Lancer about one year ago. I have recently been experiencing an intermittant problem with the engine. Sometimes when the car is started and placed in drive or reverse, the engine will start reving although your foot is on the break and not on the accelerator.
Please advise on the possible causes of this problem.

Faraz: You should have the car coded to see what the computer is picking up as to the problem for this. It should explain what is causing the reving. It could be that you have a weak sensor someplace and the computer is not reading it right. But still it will explain what is going on with the engine in your car.
