When I take off after stopping, the car "bangs" (not consistently) when the car is attempting to change from 2nd to 3rd gear.  It feels like I have been rear ended.  It often does the same thing when I stop too quickly.  The transmission (or whatever) bangs and jerks the car after the car has stopped. Of course this issue never occurs when I take it to a mechanic to show him/her what I am talking about. It also often struggles to change gears (e.g. it revs up high before changing gears).

Angie: First off take the car to a transmission shop, they will understand better what you are talking about. But then I would have the transmission fluid, filter changed at the same time add some transmission conditioner into that change too. You should have your car coded as the computer might be causing some of these problems as it does control how the transmission shifts. So coding the car would show if the computer is picking up any problems with the transmission. I hope this helps and God bless: Linda
