Mitsubishi Repair: 1992 Galant doesnt shift, transmission shifts, auto transmission

auto transmission shifts from park to reverse to drive just fine but when in drive always starts out in 3rd gear (I think) and stays there. Thanks

Gordon: The computer in the car has found a problem with your transmission so it has locked the transmission down as to shifting no farther than 3 gear. You could try to have the fluid, filter changed and add some transmission conditioner to that change; it might fix the problem so that the transmission will shift again. Then you need to have the computer coded to see what problem it is finding so stopping the transmission from shifting. Could be you have a sensor out someplace that also controls the shifting. A lot of things on car are controled by that computer and all those sensors through out your car. Even a 1992 model. Hope this helps and God bless: Linda
