Mitsubishi Repair: stick shift, bearing retainer, shift linkage

Question
i have a 94, 3000 gt. about a week ago i was driving on the freeway, and my stick sfift keeps popping out of 5th gear.  it only does it in 5th. just wondering whats causing it to do the that?

Answer
Chris: Right out of my repair manual...worn or improperly adjusted linkage, shift linkage does not work freely, binds, input gear bearing retainer broke or loose, dirt between clutch cover and engine housing, worn shift fork. Being your car is an older one it could be one of these things, it is just a bit hard to just guess at this. So you need to take your car to a shop or dealership to see they can find out your problem. If you just leave it, it will get worse. It needs to be checked out now, before it gets to the point that the whole transmission is messed up. I hope this helps and Happy New Year: Linda
