Mitsubishi Repair: 97 mitsubishi galant, mitsubishi galant, tyler tyler

Question
How many RPM's is a '97 mitsubishi Galant supposed to Idle at?  Mine is idle at between 200 - 300 and whenever I break my lights dim and if I have the fan on it will slow and sometimes my radio even shuts off. Any ideas or advice would be helpful.
Thanks,
Tyler

Answer
Tyler: You need to have the alternator on your car  checked. I would say you need to replace that. Also how old is the battery in your car? I guess I would check the battery first, get it checked to see how many volts it is putting out. Then check the cables to see if they are clean and hooked tight to the battery. Then check the alternator to see if it is putting out enough to keep the battery charged up, then check the belt that runs the alternator to see if it might be bad and needing a new one. Also when is the last time you did a good tune up on this car. Things like batteries, cables(being dirty or not tight enough), alternator and belts always seem to wait for cold weather to cause you problems. So check them, then see about that tune up. Hope this helps and Happy New Year: Linda
