Mitsubishi Repair: Lancer 1.8L 16V SOHC oil leak, oil pressure switch, rocker cover gasket

Question
Hi, My son has my old 1995 Lancer GLXi with a 1.8L motor. It has developed an oil leak which I suspect is leaking from the head gasket (or a crack). I have eliminated the rocker cover gasket and the oil pressure switch and it's not coming from the distributor housing faces.
He ran it with very little oil in the sump at some stage hence he may have overheated the oil. This happened just before it started to leak. It's done 185K,Kms and uses a little bit of oil between services and he was slack in checking the oil. GRRRR.
I fear I may have to take the head off. I don't have the workshop manual for it but I am confident at being able to do the job myself.
Could you please give me any tips or tricks before I have a go at it and what are the crucial torque settings for the head and other bits and pieces?
Any information will be greatly appreciated.
All the best for the season,
Trevor.

Answer
Trevor: You have a computer and therefore the net. I would find a parts store on line, then order a repair manual for the car you are working on. It would lead you though things, even with pictures (lol) but still you might run into something that was not planned and the repair manual would help you out there. Children will be children when it comes to cars, I had a son almost run his car out of oil. So these little cars will run on less then they should. He bought the car into me, said there was this funny light on, in the dash. Not sure what it was, it was the oil light. But again I think that repair manual would be the way to go. I work mostly on Eclipses and would hate to steer you wrong. Any information is the best way to go and that repair manual would be wonderful to have. I wish I had more to say as to help you. But hope this helps some and God bless: Linda
