Mitsubishi Repair: Headlights, high beams, headlights

Question
I have a 2001 Eclipse and both of the headlights and high beams went out all at the same time.  The passenger side light was already faulty (dim) due to a bad wire, however the driver side was working fine.  We've tried replacing all the fuses, however the problem still exists.

Answer
Amy: Sounds like you blew out a relay for the headlights. In with the engine is a black box or maybe two of them. As it is different for different year of car. But anyway on the top or cover of those boxes tells what is in each box. I believe there should be one that talks about headlight relay or larger fuse. As there is a fuse inside the car for this but this fuse would be much larger. You might need a flashlight to check those relays as they are hard to see if bad or not. But if you find a relay to replace, remember to unhook the neg cable off the battery and then replace it once you put in the new relay. Other wise you will be doing it again. Also you should check that wire and get it fixed, as it is causing an ovderload in the system. And the computer could make the relay  to blow again. Hope this helps and God bless: Linda
