Mitsubishi Repair: my 3000gt i just bought has 180,000 miles, little cars, engine knock

Question
QUESTION: should i replace the engine or can i still drive it?

ANSWER: Gabriel: How does the car run, good? Does it use any oil? Does the engine knock? I mean 180,000 miles in some cars is not a lot. If you just bought the car, you must have liked it and it must have ran for you to test drive it. If it shifts ok, it starts good, runs down the road ok, goes not leave you someplace. In that you start it up and it won't start again. But still that might be something a lot easier to fix that replacing the motor. Some of these little cars will go over 200,000 miles and still going strong. Others need an engine replacement at 50,000 miles. So drive the car, enjoy it and don't worry so much about the miles. You will have to keep an eye on the oil, being you just bought it; you will not know if she usings oil or not. Take care of the car, and it will take care of you. Hope this helps and Merry Christmas: Linda

QUESTION: what parts should I buy on a 180,000 miles engine to make it run better? Will only oil make it run good?

Answer
Gabriel: How about a tune up, whenever I buy a used car, the first thing I do is to change the oil, oil filter, air filter, stark plugs, wires and hey it would be good for your to go to a parts store to get yourself a repair manual for your car. You could read up on your car and the things that should be checked and how to do that repair. Also tell you how to do a tune up on your car. Whenever you do the stark plugs, you do one at a time, take out the old stark plug, replace it with the new plug, take off the wire, follow it back to where it hooks and then put on the new wire and then go to the next stark plug. Other wise you will mess up the timing on the car if you take them all off at once. But the repair manual is just what you need, most parts stores have them. And I think that would help you so much. Always keep a group of fuses with the car so if you blow one of those, well you got some with you. But again that repair manual would explain which ones to buy too. Hope this helps and God bless: Linda
