Mitsubishi Repair: 93 eclipse, cv joints, engine mounts

Question
i have a 93 eclipse gas 1.8l.  it was running fine until when i went to start it a loud noise started to occur, almost like a loud rattling that increases as i give it gas. is it possible it is a broken piston? it sounds like it is coming from lower in the engine. any pointers?

Answer
Aubrey: You could not have a broken piston the engine would not run then. Are you sure this is a problem with the engine but more the transmission. How does the car run other than the sound? Does it still have power? Does it steer ok, in that maybe the problem is in the steering but you hear it because you are pushing the engine which is turning the wheels. Maybe you should check your engine mounts, or the transmission mounts. Maybe you should have the CV joints checked they could be worn or bad. It is really hard to know what is going on but you need to get the into a shop and have this checked out. Merry Christmas now: Linda
