Mitsubishi Repair: mitsubishi mirage, mitsubishi mirage, head gasket

Question
For a couple of days my car wouldn't start until my second or third time trying then one night it started smoking out of the tail pipe after I put some oil and a gas treatment in it. The next day it was still smoking and it started jerking and the check engine light came on so I parked it and haven't driven it since. Some people are saying the engine might be gone but then im hearing that it might need a headgasket. Can you tell me whats wrong?

Answer
Bernard: You need to have your car coded to see what that would kick out at you. The computer of your car has found a problem in the system and put that light on. I would say putting both oil and gas treatment in the engine at the same time was not a good idea. What color is the smoke coming out of the exhaust? If the smoke coming out is white in color, then it could be a weak or bad headgasket. Now this smoke would be white and you would be able to see that. Does the car use a lot of oil? Have you maybe seen a bit of water drops in the oil when you check the oil in the engine? Is it heating or loosing water? Can you smell coolent when you start and run the engine? Still Sir you need to have the car coded, that is when the shop hooks your car's computer up to their inshop computer and then a print out is printed. And you will know what is going on with your car. But I bet putting those treatments into the engine together was a bit much for the engine. You maybe gum a lot of things up. Most of the time it is good to do one and then drive the car for a bit; then add the other one and drive it again. Oh got an AutoZone close by? They will code your car for free. I would start with the check engine light first and then go on to see if your car might have a weak head gasket. Hope this helps and God bless: Linda
