Mitsubishi Repair: 1997 eclipse no spark after installing used engine, crank sensor, distributor cap

Question
We have a 1997 eclipse, AWD, AUTO!, turbo that has a rod knock.  We got a used engine from a wrecking yard (was out of a 5 spd) and installed it.  Everything lined up ok except had to switch the intake manifolds.  Major problem.  Car has no spark!  No codes with a computer hook up.  Could the 5 spd have a different crank sensor and still not throw a code?  different computer and not showing up? Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!  James

Answer
James: Oh good question... I guess I would start with the computer as I know you are to run the right computer with the right engine. Check the coils on the engine, but then the computer controls everything but it gets this ideas from all the sensors through out the engine. Still if the computer is from the car and then different engine all. The computer is mixed up as it is trying to run the old engine but the engine is gone along with the sensors it used to get that engine to run right. So it is not letting things happens. Try replacing the distributor cap, there is a sensor in that. Or take it loose and turn it to see if that helps. Oh the crank sensor is in that distributor cap. Are you sure the stark plugs are good? I know dumb question but I had this guy... who could not get his car to have a stark and it turned out his plugs were all old so bad. So I was just wondering. I would pull the numbers off that engine, model of your car and the such; take that to a parts store and have them run as to what kind of computer you should have. Then check the computer your car has to see if it will work with that engine. Still try testing the coil and also try turning the distributor cap or maybe replacing it. Not much in the way of help and still God bless: Linda
