Mitsubishi Repair: no spark, plymouth lazer, angle sensor

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1990 plymouth lazer with a stock 4g63. After I did the timming, sometimes the car wouldnt start untill 4-5 cranks. Then after two days i turned the car off, and it never started again. I replaced the coil pack since there was spark and still Im gettin no spark. Im thinking its the computer or a sensor. by the way is there an other term for a cam angle sensor?. if u can help me out, id really appreciate it. thx

ANSWER: Max: You need to get your car coded, but also Mitsubishi farmed out the building of their computers to another company and that company did not build very good ones. With time a piece in the computer will start to leak into the computer and that will kill off the computer. Not having any stark in some cars, is what points to a bad computer. But the computer controls everything in your car from the help of all the sensors through out your car. Be thankful you have an older car, these new cars and trucks are just full of sensors. The other term of that cam angle sensor is the distributor cap; in that, that sensors is in that cap. Have you tested your plugs are they good? When is the last time you did a good tune up? Stark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. Four or five cranks makes me think that you have a bad sensor someplace but then you need to have your system checked. Please don't go down to the junk yard and buy a used computer from some car; try that in your car. Because you need the right computer for your car, model and year. Also don't borrow one from a friend's car and see if that will help your car. Because again only the right computer, model and year will work in your car. I am sorry but the things some people do and then wonder why their cars are all messed up. Just blows me away at times. Oh hey here is an idea, you might take the distributor cap loose in your car and turn it left or right; and see if the car will turn over then. Sometimes that works. Another thing how old is the battery? Is the cables tight on that battery, are they clean? These little cars like those cables tight and clean. If you turn on the lights of the car, headlights do they come on? If not that then the battery is bad, you need a lot of power to charge up that coil to make that stark. Just ideas on my part sometimes people will over look the easy things for something much harder. I hope this helps and God bless: Linda

QUESTION: Thx alot linda. really appreciate all that help. I work at my friends garage so i pretty much know enuf about cars. but im still week with the electric parts. Also one more thing i wanted to ask about. When my car was running it used to hop a bit...more like a jerk. Then i did the timming perfectly. The jerking reduced but it wasnt gone. Couldnt figure out what it was. My car has a manual tranny too. And the idealing was rough too. What can u tell me about that.

ANSWER: Max:You work at a shop, get the fuel pump tested I am wonder if it might be getting weak and not putting out enough fuel. The repair manual would explain just how much pressure the fuel pump should be putting out. If the pump is on the very low side of the level, I would think about replacing the fuel pump. Hope this helps and God bless: Linda

QUESTION: hey linda. I finally managed to get my car started up again. Funny thing was it was only a mpi fuse that was out. I didnt expect it to be that small of a problem. But anyways its still giving me some problems that i didnt have before. The car sat for about 2 months..n when i finally got it to run it would turn off with in a few seconds, it sounds like its choking on air or maybe even fuel. Also when i start the car i can see a little spark behind the throttle body, and a little current buzzin sound at the injectors. W.e the problem is, is what caused the mpi fuse to blow i belive. any recommendations? thx

Answer
Max: Did you ever get the car coded? As to check for weak or bad sensors? But also check how well the computer is working? There is a sensor in that throttle body, yet something has to make that fuse blow, you should check the coil to see if somehow it is getting or putting out to much power. But then that is controled by the computer. So again get that computer checked. You said you work at a friend's garage, surely it has a way to code the computer on your car to see if it will kick out any problems in the system? Hope this helps and God bless: Linda
