Mitsubishi Repair: HELP...Not sure what the problem is..., 2003 mitsubishi gallant, check engine soon light

I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Gallant. The check engine soon light came on for the first time this morning. What could have caused it to come on? What type of problem do i need to look for?

Beth: It might be something as easy as the engine is low on oil. Or water. You might check those. Other wise the computer in your car has picked up a problem and so kicked the light on. Does the car still run ok? If so it can not be to large of a problem. But still something to be checked out, don't put it off. But rather after checking the oil and it is ok, then the coolant and it is ok. Then get the car checked by a shop or the dealership where you bought it. I have a pick-up and everytime the dealership changes the oil; they don't put in enough oil. So the computer will kick on the light when once I add oil. The light goes off. Still got an AutoZone close by? They will code your car for free and that would explain what the computer is picking up. Hope this helps and God bless: Linda
