Mitsubishi Repair: 95 Galant check engine light, electrical problem, seatbelt light, black boxes

Question
It started out with a check engine light, I have the book for the car and the book tells you to ground the upper left terminal of the diagnostic plug.  When I did this I must of got the wrong one because it sparked, when this happened I no longer have a radio, trunk light, dome light, under hood light, the door beeper doesn't beep when the keys are in the ignition it starts to beep very faintly when the door is closed and the seatbelt light comes on instead or the door agar light, the power lock on my door doesn't work all the time anymore either (but the doors wont lock when the keys are in the ignition if the drivers door is open if it is not running, under normal operating) the most baffling or the situation is the top five fuses across the top of the panel have continuity between each other, and no fuses are blown.  The book I have doesn't have complete wiring diagrams.

Answer
Pat: Using that meter you should be able to find out what you did to your car. As it should show you if you have a short someplace. I would say you might have killed off a relay. Those relays are in boxes under the hood in with the engine. Or you could have killed off one of the larger fuses again in those black boxes under the hood. I think one is over on the driver's side of the car and the other two with the battery or in that area. You need to check for a bad relay or fuse there. To check the relays, you will need a good flashlight as those relays are often hard to see if they are good or bad. If you find a bad relay(s), you will need to remove the neg cable off the battery when putting in the new relay or else you will be doing it all again. So take out the bad relay, remove the neg cable off the battery, put in the new relay and replace the cable. If you can not find the problem, you will have to let a shop find it for you. Because sometimes those are very hard to find if not a relay or one of those larger fuses. I hope this helps and God bless: Linda
