Mitsubishi Repair: 92 galant gs vibration, balance shaft, balance shafts

Question
hi kelly
Ive got a 92 galant gs dohc 2.0. It has a wicked vibration in the engine/conpartment. Ive replace all motor mounts. It vibrates more between 2-3 rpms when you push on the gas or let it off.....It sounds like a motor mount type a sound.
thx wade

Answer
A balance shaft out of phase (out of timing) can cause that. There is a very detailed FAQ on the timing belt/balance shaft belt removal/installation at:

http://www.vfaq.com/mods/timingbelt-1G.html

about 26 pages, so have some paper handy for your printer. If there isn't any vibration at idle (and you haven't removed your balance shafts) then that's where I would look first. You will have to remove the timing cover and a small plug at the back of the motor (no oil or antifreeze to leak out), but it's not that tall a task.
