Mitsubishi Repair: 2002 mitsubishi lancer es start issue, mitsubishi lancer, good shape

Question
Hi, Just recently my car has started to have a difficult time turning over when the engine is cold. It will take about 15 seconds to get to the proper turn over. Should I be looking at installing a new alternator? If so, where and how do I access the alternator?

Answer
Chris: When is the last time you did a tune up on this car? If is has been a while I would do that. Check the cables on the battery, how old are they and are they in good shape? If not replace them. The alternator is only as good as the cables and the battery. You can have a test done to see if you really need that alternator too. I would have that done when you get that tune up on your car. Winter is coming and so it is a good time to get the car ready for that. I would also have the coil checked if the car is hard to start when cold and also have the car coded to rule out any problem with the computer or sensors. Hope this helps and God bless: Linda
