Mitsubishi Repair: Fixing the drain hose of airconditioner, mitsubishi gallant, technical bulletins

Question
We began to get water in the passenger floorboard.  We could hear water rolling to that side on turning within the dash.  We took it to an air condition repair shop and they tried twice to clean out the drain hose.  Now we have estimates of 1,000.00 plus, which makes me nervous, to remove the console from the air conditioning place and the dealer. We have a 2001 Mitsubishi Gallant  which has numerous technical bulletins out on the problem since about 6 months from making the car. Is this a design flaw?
My husband is going to try to blow it out with an air compressor when he gets home.  Any other suggestions.  The cost is prohibitive of getting the work done.  Just hoping for any suggestions.

Answer
There is TSB 02-55-008 that describes installing a filter assembly to stop debris from entering the a/c case and clogging the drain hose. If you have lots of debris, just blowing air into the drain hose may getting working, but it could clog again as soon as debris drains back into the hose. Keep in mind that the hose is placed at the lowest point and it is a magnet for everything that flows to it. You might have to open the case, properly clean it, install the filter assembly and then your problems should be taken care of.
Blowing it out with compressed air (at a rather low pressure) might be a way of dealing with it for low cost, but there may be repeated attempts to keep it clear.

A design flaw? Most likely.
