Mitsubishi Repair: Engine swap 2.4 for 3.0, eclipse spyder, motor mounts

Question
QUESTION: i have a 2001 eclipse spyder, and i want more power, one option i have come up with it to put the GT in it. are the mounts the same for the engine? would this be a hard task?

ANSWER: Jake: Ok, the motor mounts are the same, but what about the transmission, transaxle and everything else that has to be hook to your car. You will have to get yourself a repair maunal for your car and see if you really want the power that bad. It will take some time, tools and know how to change an engine. But then it sometimes will take a lot of time getting all the bugs out of things too. As I just put an different engine in my Ford pick-up, still working on bugs with it. I understand the need for speed but still maybe it would be just better to trade up to a car with a larger and faster engine. Still you need to check around to different shops and see what they tell you. It would also be costly too, you would loose the use of your car for a time and then those darn bugs to work out. Hope this helps and God bless... Linda

QUESTION: so are you saying that i would need to get a new tranny or just take off and put on new engine? would i have to change anything with the computer?

Answer
Jake: Look I am saying the fact that the motor mounts will work isn't the whole ball game here. There is much to take a motor out and putting in another one. Have your checked to see if the transmission well transaxle will work with this new engine? I mean there is hoses, wiring, the computer yes and sensors all through out the engine, there is so many other things then just those motor mounts. What if you go ahead and do this, then run into a problem something does not work. Let's say your old engine has only three wires for something and the new one has four. What are you going to do then? You need to read up on all this and really do some checking on the net. Don't just go ahead and do this because the motor mounts line up. I mean with my Ford it has been one headache after another. And still the truck and engine are not working good together. But it had to be done, because the engine in my truck was damaged due to a crash. I mean you have a good engine in that car of your's but you want more power. So trade cars, get something with that engine in it already from the plant. And you will not end up with one headache after another and wonder why you decided to do all that for what?? More POWER!Check out other sites on the net, surely someone else would be able to help you with this. I am not the one to be asking about this, what with all the problems I am having right now with my truck. God bless: Linda
